A Lesson of Observation

As an overview, the studying of this trip focused on agricultural marketing and communication techniques from other perspectives and perceptions of the agriculture industry. In our first lesson, we focused on the fundamentals of communications and key factors that play into effective storytelling. Then, we were given an assignment, a task, and perhaps more of a challenge: walk to a cafe, order a cappuccino, but most importantly observe the culture and interactions of those around you.

Karley and I decided to go together and walk past all the cafes close to the Rome Center. We walked and walked until we finally found one.  As we ordered and sat, it was a cafe primarily trafficked by locals. Two Italians sat beside us, avidly chattering about something, engaged in deep conversation. The waiters of the cafe were kind and welcoming.

As apart of this assignment, we were to write a haiku about our experience. As we sat at the cafe, this is what I wrote:

bonguiro greets me

chic and classy locals prate

grazie, empty plate
