The First Farm
When on a farm tour, the thing I always seem to find is the dog. To me, a good dog is a sign of a good farm. At our first visit, this was evidently true.
Driving up to the farm, seeing the range of forest, the hay bales, and cattle in the distance was peaceful - a feeling of home. As we walked around the production and saw cheese making to artichokes growing, I realized the vast depth of Italian agriculture. As we walked around everyone had their own role in the mix of production, including the dogs. From those that greeted us as we walked in to the sheep dogs in the back lot, it all played together as a unique production.
Tasting fresh cheese and seeing the differences in the makeup of the livestock opened my eyes to the marketing of agriculture in different cultures. As we questioned how marketing works, we were told it is primarily by word of mouth. All connections that have been made are used well to establish profit and branding of the farm.
